Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, but they are made up of clear or tooth-colored brackets instead of gray or metallic silver brackets and wires. Because they are made up of clear or tooth-colored brackets, ceramic braces are often used on teens and older patients, as they offer a more aesthetic option for teeth straightening.
They usually have smaller brackets compared to traditional metal ones. They are made of ceramic alloys, a clear ceramic material, and are bonded to the front of the teeth. The arch wires that are threaded into the slots in the brackets also have the color to match the teeth, thus further reducing the visibility of the braces.
As they are less visible than metal braces, people may not even realize one is having orthodontic treatment.
Ceramic brackets don’t stain easily, but the elastic ties used to hold them to the wire can.
