Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that specializes in diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities called malocclusions. Orthodontic treatment can involve braces, clear aligners, or other dental devices to correct misaligned teeth and jaws for both functional and aesthetic reasons. The purpose of orthodontic treatment is to create a healthy, functional bite, which is part of achieving overall oral health. By aligning teeth properly, orthodontics also ensures easier cleaning, which can reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The field requires additional years of training beyond dental school for dentists to become certified orthodontists.
