How Does Guided BIOFILM Therapy GBT Work in Teeth Cleaning?
As part of an integrated preventive concept, the Guided BIOFILM Therapy GBT improves patient compliance and attendance at recall appointments, while maintaining patients’ oral health.
It is a modular, systematic, predictable and logical solution for oral biofilm management in prophylaxis using state-of-the-art technologies such as AIRFLOW MAX, PERIOFLOW with AIRFLOW PLUS powder and PIEZON.
In 2016, EMS developed the GBT protocol with the help of academics, researchers, and clinicians from across the globe, to overcome all the challenges associated with prophylaxis today.
The protocol can be adapted to a variety of clinical settings in the dental practice, from preventing early caries and periodontal disease to maintaining and treating periodontitis and mucositis in many cases.
All patients in supportive periodontal therapy can benefit from this protocol, which is the basis for nonsurgical, initial periodontal treatment.
A GBT involves eight steps that can be modified according to the clinical situation. This protocol aims to be minimally invasive, preserve hard and soft tissue, and meet patient expectations.
It has been proven that, when recommendations on correct use are followed, this protocol is highly effective, safe, and comfortable, not only for clinicians, but also for patients.
By using a disclosing agent to visualize supragingival biofilm and completing a thorough periodontal screening with the patient, the clinician can not only encourage better oral hygiene, but can also remove supragingival biofilm in an efficient, predictable manner. Disclosing the biofilm also enables the clinician to build trust and confidence with the patient, since it assures quality clinical outcomes.
Further, it helps re-educate patients on effective tooth cleaning, particularly in areas of the mouth that are often neglected or difficult to access.
With the Guided Laminar AIRFLOW MAX and the PERIOFLOW nozzle, all supragingival and subgingival biofilm can be removed in the most minimally invasive and highly comfortable manner possible. It helps to avoid over-instrumentation by providing an easy visualization of all supragingival calculi.
In just one step, the erythritol-based PLUS powder removes all supragingival and subgingival biofilm. This product contains particles of approximately 14 um, and does not cause pain or discomfort to the patient. It preserves the natural integrity of dental implants, restorations, orthodontic appliances, and prostheses.
The high-quality, Swiss-made instrument, designed like a periodontal probe, eliminates stubborn calculus subgingival and supragingival up to 10mm. When the oral cavity is clean without staining, biofilm, or calculus, clinicians are better able to see and detect caries, white spots, and fractures in a more predictable manner.
At GDNC, our hygienist is a GBT certified and she is an expert in using this technology in teeth cleaning treatments. Watch the below video in order to know more about the Guided BioFilm Therapy Protocol GBT.
