How Your Dream Of A Hollywood Smile Can Become A Reality

A Hollywood smile refers to a complete smile makeover that was once only available to the Hollywood elite but is now accessible through your family dentist. Custom-made thin veneers are placed on the front of the tooth to improve its shape and permanently increase its whiteness. The veneers are generally composed of porcelain which is resistant to stains. These ceramic peels are recommended by dentists to address a range of dental problems.

Before the Procedure

Schedule a consultation with your dentist and get a detailed visual assessment on achieving your desired results. Teeth will either be examined using 3-D scanning or x-ray. This will help determine all pre-existing dental issues. Don’t be afraid of asking too many questions particularly on the color, shape, size,  or length of the veneers. Mention any particular smile you have in mind so the doctor can shed light on whether it will enhance your facial symmetry or not. You can always opt to try out temporary veneers to better feel and see what to expect. Once you decide to continue the path to your designer smile, impressions, and images of your facial dimensions will be taken so the dental lab technicians can use the most accurate measurements to custom-make your dental veneers. It usually takes a week to prepare the customized porcelain veneers after which you will be asked to come in for a practice fitting.

During the procedure

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on each patient’s details and the components used. Before the veneers are placed, the teeth surface and enamel will be thoroughly cleaned and if necessary, the teeth will be whitened to match the selected shade of the veneer. In most cases, the tooth tissue layer as thick as the veneer (5mm) is removed to make space for veneer placement. This is done to avoid the tooth from looking bulky and to highlight the veneer’s authenticity. The dentist will apply a dental cement resin to secure the veneer to the front surface of the required tooth, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit.

After the Procedure

You’ve put a lot of thought and effort and cost into achieving your perfect smile, now you need to ensure its maintenance and longevity. This can be done by following a well-balanced diet, brushing and flossing regularly, and avoiding harshly biting into hard foods. In addition, an annual assessment of the veneers at your dental clinic will be necessary to ensure they are being well looked after. In some cases, a nightguard will be recommended to protect veneers from potential teeth grinding.
