Teach Your Children Teeth Brushing With Fun!
There is no doubt that all parents are aware of the importance of teaching their children how to brush their teeth and take care of their oral health. However, let us be honest, getting children into the habit of teeth brushing is not easy and it is very challenging, they usually do not like it, because they find it complicated and scary.
From a very young age, teeth brushing should be taught and practiced. It’s never too early to introduce babies to oral care. Before the child’s first tooth emerges, the parents need to start teaching him or her oral hygiene. They can start off by gently brushing the baby’s gums with a soft, clean cloth to remove bacteria. As a result, the baby will be less afraid to use the toothbrush later on. It is one of the most important dental habits that children must develop while they are still young.
Learning and practicing good oral hygiene habits at a young age is important for long-term oral health.
Here are some tips to help parents encourage their children to brush their teeth:
Brush with them:
This is the simplest technique to ensure they spend sufficient time on their teeth, just brush your teeth with them!
Let them pick out their toothpaste and toothbrush:
Children love picking out what they wear, so let them pick out toothpaste and toothbrushes as well, and ensure that the toothpaste options you give them contain fluoride. This way, they have a flavor of toothpaste they like and a toothbrush they are excited about!
Make it fun:
Let kids play games and have fun while brushing their teeth. Pick a song he or she loves that is about two minutes in length. Together, brush your teeth for the entire duration of the song. Children will be more likely to brush their teeth if you make it fun and not seen as a chore.
Make it a routine:
By brushing your teeth with your children every day, you’ll help them establish a routine that will help them maintain good oral hygiene.
Compliment them:
For children, positive reinforcement is always a good idea. If you see that their teeth are looking sparkling white, let them know! If you make them feel like brushing their teeth is a skill they are good at, they will be more apt to keep doing it.
Teach them the importance of brushing and flossing:
Children need to be educated about the importance of brushing and flossing in order to maintain great oral health and prevent tooth decay and gum disease. It is good also to teach them that flossing is not only necessary to remove food from between their teeth, but also to remove plaque below their gum line in order to prevent tartar buildup.
Teach kids about foods that are healthy for their teeth:
Consider playing a game of “healthy and unhealthy snacks” such as forming a tooth shape out of a carton and giving each child a tooth then asking them to choose a snack from a list of food that includes both healthy and unhealthy options. If they select healthy food, use a highlighter or dry erase marker to color food spots on their tooth. If they select an unhealthy, use a permanent black marker to color food spots on their tooth.
Now give the child a toothbrush to brush away their food spots. Explain that healthy foods are easy to brush away but unhealthy foods are hard to brush away and can lead to cavities.
Find the Right Dentist
Find a dentist who is good at working with kids. It is good if the dentist complements the child’s brushing and encourages it. He/she can also give some tips and tricks for improving the child’s oral hygiene care.
